The Gleeful Conspiracy

The Gleeful Conspiracy is a Connecticut-based band that draws from a number of genres including alternative rock, disco, soul, blues, Motown, Latin music and pop.

​

The band was started in 2020 by husband-and-wife combo Thom and Whitney Guthrie when they brought their original songs to the outside world by performing live as a vocal/keys and bass duo (using the keyboards drum machine). The Guthrie’s were then joined by drummer Mike Keyes, who has played in a number of bands and who’s reputation preceded himself. As a trio, the songs evolved further and the blueprint of ‘The Gleeful Conspiracy’ sound was crafted. They finally filled the role of guitarist after Thom and Whitney ran into Jeff Carpenter and his son at a Guitar Center in New London. Jeff has played guitar for a number of years but was just recently getting back into playing and making home recordings.

 

After a number of live performances, the band recorded their first EP, Manifestival, with Middletown’s musical ambassador Michael Arafeh at the Coffeehouse Studio - that is expected to be released in early spring 2024.

 

The Gleeful Conspiracy has one main objective in our music. To get your body moving. And while you’re on the dance floor sweating and "puttin’ in the work" with other fellow Conspirators, you are hit with Whitney’s powerful vocals cutting through sounds that are ethereal and melodic while the rhythm pulses via the groove factory that is Mike and Thom. We pull from our collective inspirations and combine together a sound that is hard to neatly categorize. But. What you’re left with are melodies that you CANNOT get out of your head and your body still death rattling from the dance grooves you can’t shake away.
